Gotham did not end when the Scarecrow fell. In the rain-slicked hours after the fear gas thinned, Batman stood before the Batcomputer and learned the oldest rule of Batman: Arkham Knight’s finale: credits are not conclusion. The true ending—the full Knightfall Protocol—was a locked vault, and Gotham had hidden the combination across fourteen Most Wanted files and two hundred forty-three Riddler challenges. By 2026, that rule still holds. A player can finish City of Fear, watch the Scarecrow’s scheme collapse, and still find the Dark Knight’s story stopping short of its real conclusion.
The Lock Behind the Curtain
The full Knightfall Protocol is a clockmaker’s puzzle: fourteen Most Wanted tumblers, then 243 tiny teeth counted before the case can snap shut. Completing at least seven Most Wanted missions allows a shorter Knightfall sequence, but the extended ending demands 100% base-game completion. The route is exact: finish City of Fear, close every base-game Most Wanted case, capture Riddler, and activate the Knightfall Protocol from the Batcomputer. Anything less is a curtain falling before the last act.
Riddler’s Revenge is the usual blocker. Batman must resolve all 243 challenges and complete its 10 trials before Riddler can be captured. Those challenges include trophies, riddles, breakable objects, bomb rioters, and trial progress. AR Challenges, New Game Plus, and Season of Infamy cases are not mandatory for the base-game ending. DLC can raise the broader completion total, but it does not replace the fourteen-file route.
A Cleanup Route That Respects Gotham’s Hours
A sensible player alternates movement types instead of leaving every vehicle objective until the finale. Clear detective and character cases—Professor Pyg, Man-Bat, Hush, and Deacon Blackfire—alongside combat or predator work, then use Batmobile travel to chain militia objectives. The Line of Duty requires 17 firefighters, while Heir to the Cowl uses Azrael’s combat trials and decision sequence. The Gotham map becomes a ledger written in neon and smoke, every unresolved icon an unpaid line.
Use this high-count audit while moving between islands:

Finish a few Freeflow or predator objectives, then handle nearby Batmobile combat before changing islands. This prevents a late-game map filled with one repetitive militia sweep and exposes missing trophy-gated objectives while the relevant gadget or upgrade is still available. It also keeps the fourteen-file board from becoming a pile of identical icons.
Riddler’s Revenge Is a Route, Not a Scavenger Hunt
Riddler’s 243 challenges are grains of rice poured into a pocket watch—tiny, countable, and maddening when chased one by one without a route. Interrogate every green Riddler informant encountered; each one reveals nearby locations and reduces blind searching. Clear Gotham island by island after unlocking the required gadgets and Batmobile upgrades, prioritizing enclosed Riddler rooms and puzzle trophies before easy rooftop pickups. Straightforward rooftop trophies are ideal for a fast endgame sweep.
Before confronting Riddler, verify every category in the mission menu: trophies, scanned riddles, breakables, bomb rioters, and trial progress. The total is 243, spread across Bleake Island, Miagani Island, Founders’ Island, Panessa Studios, Stagg Airships, and Arkham Knight HQ. If the counter is short by even 1, Riddler’s capture and the full Knightfall sequence remain locked. That single missing trophy can feel like a pebble stuck in a Batmobile’s tread—small, absurd, and impossible to ignore.
Final Audit Before Knightfall
Run this audit before selecting Knightfall:
-
✅ City of Fear complete.
-
✅ All 14 base-game Most Wanted files closed.
-
✅ 243/243 Riddler challenges resolved.
-
✅ Riddler captured.
-
✅ No base-game case marker remains on Gotham’s map.
On PC, version 1.6.2.0 remains playable on modern systems, Steam Deck is Verified, and occasional WBID maintenance affects cosmetic services rather than completion requirements. For buyers in 2026, the October 18 Steam Weekend Deal lists Standard at $3.99, Premium at $5.99, and Arkham Collection at $8.99 through October 22. Premium is the sensible complete-content choice for a 100% run because it includes the Season Pass, although the base-game Knightfall checklist remains the same. Storefront status can change after the promotion, so verify the listing before committing.
Only when the Batcomputer accepts the full audit does Gotham’s true ending become more than a rumor. The Scarecrow can fall, the credits can roll, and the city can exhale—but the Knightfall Protocol waits for the player who counts every file, every trophy, and every last unpaid line in Gotham’s neon ledger.
For players still looking to add the complete collection to their library or expand their backlog with similar superhero titles, finding the best bundle discounts across different storefronts does not have to be guesswork.
