Cloud Strife had seen plenty of treasures hide behind worse things than a crane. In Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, though, the blue Magnify Materia in Chapter 9 has a special talent for turning a routine route into a quiet disaster. The base game contains only two Magnify orbs. One waits in the Collapsed Expressway while Cloud and Aerith are still together. The other belongs to Yuffie in Chapter 1 of EPISODE INTERmission, tucked into the Pillar Hoist. Neither reappears in Hard Mode. Two orbs. That is the entire allowance.
The Third Crane Is the One That Matters
The Chapter 9 pickup is not the first container lift that pushes the story forward. Cloud and Aerith must push through the Utility Tunnel until the third crane puzzle. There, the blue orb sits on a high platform at the far left. The normal exit solution can send Aerith away without it. Here’s the kicker: the route looks finished before the Materia is safe.
Before committing to progression, use the crane to carry the container all the way left and lower it directly in front of the Materia platform. Then choose the option for Aerith to climb across. She retrieves Magnify and returns with it. The orb sits on its perch like a smug little lighthouse, and the crane does not care about completionism.

Do not leave the third crane area until the orb is in inventory. Once Cloud and Aerith move beyond the Utility Tunnel, Chapter 9 offers no route back. After the credits, Chapter Select is the recovery tool. If Magnify was already collected, revisiting that pickup produces a consumable such as an Ether, not another blue orb. No dice. That remains the only Magnify in the base game, including on Hard Mode.
Yuffie’s Pillar Hoist Is a Different Kind of Trap
In Yuffie’s campaign, the second orb waits in Chapter 1. Yuffie and Sonon enter the Pillar Hoist shipping-container section, where a terminal controls the yellow containers. The required container must stop midway so it forms a bridge toward the raised platform. From that position, Yuffie uses her traversal route to reach the high wooden scaffolding and collect the blue orb. Missing the bridge angle is easy because the forward path remains visible while the Magnify ledge sits above it. One wrong exit. One missing blue dot.
Keep the campaign split straight: this Pillar Hoist copy is INTERmission-only. It is not a second base-story spawn. Replaying Chapter 1 or changing difficulty does not farm extra Magnify Materia, so the complete Intergrade package still caps out at two copies. Build around those two linked slots instead of expecting a third orb for every party role.
What Magnify Actually Does
Magnify links to one compatible Magic Materia in a connected weapon or armor slot. The spell then spreads to all valid allies or enemies. Its multi-target falloff is 60% at Level 1, 45% at Level 2, and 25% at Level 3. The payoff is coverage and ATB efficiency, not full single-target output. Two Magnify Materia also cannot be linked to the same spell.
| Magnify Level |
Multi-target output |
| Level 1 |
60% |
| Level 2 |
45% |
| Level 3 |
25% |
For a classic community Magnify-Man setup, Aerith can carry Magnify plus Healing when party recovery must answer multiple health bars in one ATB spend. Alternatively, pair it with an elemental spell for broad pressure before or during Stagger, while preserving another character’s ATB for focused damage. With only two orbs, each link must choose a job: emergency support, mob clearing, or Stagger-window tempo. Materia is patient. Chapter 9 is not.
The 2026 Version Check
By late October 2026, Intergrade is available on PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. Its MSRP is $39.99, with sales commonly landing at $19.99–$24.99. The Trilogy Edition is listed at $84.99. The optional Streamlined Progression update, versions 1.005/1.006, can help newer players catch up before the trilogy’s final entry. Before a Chapter Select Materia sweep on PC, verify the current installed build. Patch checking will not create another Magnify orb, but it prevents confusion between the base campaign and the included EPISODE INTERmission content.
The Two-Stop Route Worth Memorizing
| Route stop |
What to do |
What not to assume |
| Chapter 9, Utility Tunnel, third crane |
Move the container far left, lower it before the Materia platform, send Aerith across |
The normal exit does not collect the orb |
| INTERmission Chapter 1, Pillar Hoist |
Stop the yellow container midway, bridge the gap, reach the high scaffolding |
Replays and difficulty changes do not farm another orb |
Neither location is farmable through Hard Mode. A previously looted spot will not become a fresh Magnify source. For buyers comparing editions, confirm that EPISODE INTERmission is included. The two-stop route is simple once it is known: collect the Chapter 9 third-crane orb before leaving with Aerith, then bridge the Chapter 1 Pillar Hoist gap in INTERmission with Yuffie. Cloud and Aerith get one chance. Yuffie gets one careful angle. Two blue orbs, two linked slots, and no third copy waiting in the dark. That stings, but it is also the rule.
